Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced an immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections across the state, with a focus on motor parks and other sectors. In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Fred Itua, the governor emphasized that anyone found collecting revenue on behalf of the state government would face arrest.

Governor Okpebholo directed the state’s Commissioner of Police to take action against any individual violating the suspension order. He also mentioned that a review of the revenue collection process would take place soon, with new guidelines to be issued shortly. “Until further notice, no one is authorized to collect revenue on behalf of the state government,” he added.

This move comes just after Okpebholo’s swearing-in as the Governor of Edo on Tuesday, marking the end of Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year term. Okpebholo, alongside his deputy Dennis Idahosa, took the oath of office at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The ceremony was attended by numerous supporters who cheered as the new governor made his way through the stadium in an open van.
