The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has urged corps members to use their service year to reflect on their lives and plan for a brighter future. Addressing the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 corps members during an orientation course at the NYSC camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, Ahmed emphasized the importance of setting life goals and avoiding distractions.

“You are all in your youthful age, and this is the best time to reflect and plan your future,” the DG stated during his routine camp visit. “Use this opportunity to serve the nation wisely, while also preparing for a better life ahead.”

Maximize Potential with NYSC Opportunities
Ahmed highlighted the NYSC scheme as a platform for self-discovery and skill development. He encouraged corps members to leverage the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to learn at least two practical skills that could help them establish sustainable careers.

“NYSC is collaborating with several governmental and non-governmental organizations to support corps members with access to funds for business startups,” he added, urging participants to explore the programme’s benefits fully.

Advisory on Travel and Security
The DG also issued a stern warning against unauthorized and night travels, citing safety concerns. “Night journeys expose you to hazards and dangers. If travel is unavoidable, it must not be at night,” he cautioned.

In addition, Ahmed advised corps members to remain security conscious throughout their service year, urging them to focus on their goals and avoid frivolities.
