Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described his remarkable rise to Nigeria’s highest office as nothing short of a “political miracle.”

Speaking on Friday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos during the public presentation of books authored by Reuben Abati, his former spokesman, Jonathan said his rapid political ascent could only have been made possible by divine intervention.

“My political journey looked like a miracle,” he said. “From deputy governor to president of this country within four years it was truly a miracle. Only God could have made that possible.”

Jonathan praised Abati for documenting his years in public service and for his enduring contributions to journalism and national dialogue.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who chaired the occasion, commended Abati’s evolution from journalist to political figure and now author. Obasanjo noted that truth remains the cornerstone of progress and national development.

“The truth that I stood for at that time, you have now come to stand for,” Obasanjo said. “I am proud to see Reuben Abati grow, mature, and find success. May God continue to guide you.”

Book reviewer Louis Odion said Abati’s latest works capture Nigeria’s triumphs and struggles, while inspiring hope and unity.

The books presented at the event include Portraits: People, Politics and Society (642 pages), How Goodluck Jonathan Became President (285 pages), and A Love Letter and Other Stories (402 pages). Abati also revealed plans to release additional titles focusing on Jonathan’s presidency.

The keynote address was delivered by Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Hassan Kukah, with several notable personalities in attendance, including former Ogun State governor Segun Osoba, Abia governor Alex Otti, Lagos deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat, EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede, Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and business leaders like Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Nduka Obaigbena.
