Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has firmly rejected rumors of a rift with his political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement. Speaking to journalists, Yusuf assured that his bond with Kwankwaso remains strong and unbroken, contrary to recent speculations that suggested tension between the two.

The rumors gained traction following an alleged fallout between Kwankwaso and Aliyu Sani Madakin-Gini, a member of the House of Representatives, who hinted that disagreements over a drugs contract and a state scholarship program might be at the heart of the strained relationship. However, Governor Yusuf was quick to dismiss these claims, asserting his complete independence in decision-making.

Yusuf, who has been close to Kwankwaso for over four decades, reflected on their history together, describing it as one of mutual respect and unwavering loyalty. “In 40 years, we’ve never had a falling out. I served as his personal assistant when he was governor, and our relationship has always been grounded in trust,” he said.

The governor also revealed that he had personally visited Kwankwaso just days ago to discuss the rumors, expressing his disbelief at the notion of any discord. “I told him, ‘I’m shocked. Do people expect me to insult the man who has always been there for me?’” Yusuf added, emphasizing that it was not in his character to betray someone who has supported him for so long.
