Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced a generous donation of N100 million to assist victims of the recent fire incident at the Kantin Kwari Textile Market. The announcement came during a sympathy visit to the market on Thursday, as revealed by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa.

During his visit, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the financial aid was not intended as compensation for the losses suffered but rather to help ease the burden on the affected traders. “The donation is not meant to compensate you, but to support the affected traders and alleviate their suffering,” he stated.

In addition to the monetary donation, the governor also pledged to enhance the market’s infrastructure by installing solar lighting, improving road conditions, constructing drainage systems, and providing motorized boreholes to ensure better facilities for the traders.

Yusuf reassured the market traders of the state government’s dedication to preserving Kano’s reputation as a major commercial hub for Northern Nigeria and the wider West African region.

During the governor’s visit, Hamisu Nama, the Managing Director of the Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, reported that 29 shops had been destroyed in the fire. He expressed gratitude to the firefighters and community members for their swift action during the crisis.

Sabu’u Bako, Chairman of the Market Elders Committee, extended his thanks to the governor for his support and requested further assistance to address ongoing operational challenges within the market.
