Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has extended immediate employment to Sham’unu Ishaq, a first-class graduate from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, who resorted to selling sachet water to support his family. This remarkable gesture emphasizes the governor’s commitment to academic excellence and youth development in Katsina State.

A tweet on Friday from Isah Miqdad, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, highlighted the swift response following a viral video of Ishaq’s story. Governor Radda directed his Special Assistant on Students Matters, Hon. Muhammad Nagaske, to verify the claims, which were later authenticated by the university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

“Upon learning of Ishaq’s situation, Governor Radda promptly offered him employment,” the statement noted. Ishaq, a First-Class graduate in Education/Biology from the 2021/2022 academic session, had completed his National Youth Service Corps in Taraba State and was selling sachet water to meet family obligations.

Governor Radda stressed that academic excellence deserves recognition, saying, “This administration is committed to identifying and supporting exceptional talents who can contribute to our state’s development. We believe the future of Katsina State lies in harnessing the potential of our brightest minds.”

Supporting Excellence and Empowerment

Between May and October 2024, Governor Radda’s administration provided employment to 18 graduates from local institutions. On October 12, nine exceptional graduates from Isah Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma, received automatic job offers. Similarly, nine First-Class graduates from Umaru Musa Yar’adua University were employed during its recent convocation.
