Traditional rulers from the South-East have united once again to advocate for peace, security, and unity in their region. This urgent appeal came during a significant meeting held in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, on Tuesday.

Prominent figures attended the gathering, including the esteemed Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, alongside other influential traditional leaders. The focus of their discussions centered on pressing regional issues and strategies for a brighter future.

The monarchs underscored the critical importance of peace, development, and unity as foundational elements for advancing progress in the South-East. Their growing concern about escalating insecurity in the area was evident throughout the discussions.

Eze E.C. Okeke, Chairman of the Imo State Council of Ndi Eze, along with his counterpart from Abia State, Eze Linus Nto Mba, commended Governor Alex Otti for his administration’s proactive peace and development policies. They praised the collaborative relationship between the state government and traditional institutions, which they believe fosters a stable environment for growth.

In his address, Governor Alex Otti expressed grave concerns regarding civil unrest in communities, which often arises from disputes over the selection of traditional rulers. He cautioned against the imposition of rulers based on financial gain, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to due process in the selection of monarchs. The governor reminded the traditional leaders of their vital role in upholding democracy and fostering harmony within their communities.
