House Orders Arrest of Tricycle Association Leader Over Financial Mismanagement

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has issued an order for the immediate arrest of Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelegun, National Chairman of the Tricycle Association of Nigeria, over alleged financial mismanagement and abuse of office. Apelegun’s repeated failure to respond to over five committee summons has now prompted the committee to direct the Inspector General of Police to apprehend him and present him at the next scheduled hearing on December 3.

The committee’s action stems from a petition lodged by the law firm I.M. Iliyasu and Co. on behalf of dissatisfied members within the association, citing financial misconduct by Apelegun. Committee Chairman Mike Etaba reinforced the committee’s commitment to public accountability, stating that any disregard for the law would not be tolerated. “The welfare of the public and adherence to the rule of law remain our priorities,” Etaba affirmed.

In a concurrent move, the committee issued a strict warning to Prima Factory, a Lagos-based company, due to management’s failure to attend a committee hearing addressing a case of alleged workplace neglect. The committee expressed concerns over the treatment of Rafiu Taiwo, an employee who suffered an on-the-job injury but has reportedly not received adequate care or compensation. The committee warned that if Prima Factory continues to disregard its responsibilities, similar legal actions will follow, reinforcing the government’s stance on workplace accountability and employee rights.
