Officials from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce conducted a major enforcement operation on Thursday, clearing traders from the Ikotun BRT bus station and confiscating illegally displayed goods.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the operation in a statement on Friday. He revealed that the taskforce seized various items unlawfully displayed by street vendors and restored order to the bus station and its surrounding areas.

Wahab stated, “The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce monitored compliance and carried out enforcement at the Ikotun BRT bus station, which had been illegally occupied by vendors for commercial purposes.” He added that all goods displayed at unauthorized locations were confiscated, and the area was sanitized to curb the disruptions caused by street trading.

Nine Suspects Apprehended

During the operation, nine individuals were arrested and are expected to face legal action in court. This initiative is part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to enforce urban order and ensure public spaces, like bus stations and roads, are used appropriately.

The crackdown follows a series of similar enforcement actions, including the demolition of shanties and inspections of drainage projects aimed at tackling urban challenges such as flooding and illegal structures.
