Ameer Habib Tajje, the leader of the Lakurawa terrorist group, has made a direct appeal to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, urging him to abandon his criminal lifestyle. Tajje is preparing to send a high-level delegation to Turji, demanding his full renouncement of violent and unlawful actions.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Tajje, who leads the Lakurawa group in Sokoto’s northwestern region, aims to confront Turji over his persistent criminal activities, including kidnappings and extortion of local farmers. These activities have plagued the area, with farmers being forced to pay significant levies before being allowed to harvest their crops.

In a time when Lakurawa has gained notoriety for violent attacks, including a deadly assault in Kebbi this November that claimed 15 lives, Tajje’s call for peace could signal a shift in the ongoing conflict. The Lakurawa group has also imposed heavy taxes on communities in Sokoto, further tightening their grip on the region.
