The community of Nnewi was gripped by sorrow and heartfelt tributes on Friday as the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South, was laid to rest at his residence. The emotional farewell began with his remains being brought to his hometown, Umuanuka, Otolo Nnewi, before proceeding to St. Peter Clever Parish for a solemn funeral Mass. At the gates of his estate, crowds of mourners, including locals who had benefited from his generosity, gathered in tears, paying their final respects.

Senator Ubah tragically passed away in July 2024 while in the United Kingdom to attend his daughter’s graduation. Known for his immense philanthropic efforts, he was a pillar of hope in Nnewi and Anambra, providing opportunities through his businesses and uplifting the less privileged through countless acts of charity.

The funeral drew a host of dignitaries, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor Peter Obi, and ex-Senator Uche Ekwunife, all of whom celebrated Ubah’s indelible impact on the region. In his homily, Bishop Peter Cardinal Ebere Okpaleke commended Ubah’s selfless contributions and urged others to emulate his commitment to humanity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Uche Ekwunife described Ubah as a rare leader whose legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering integrity would continue to inspire future generations. Despite security concerns stemming from separatist threats, the event proceeded peacefully, underlining the deep respect the late senator commanded across various circles.
